Purpose
This article explains how to replace the On-Premise Scanning bootstrap binary (o24-bootstrap) on an installed appliance with a newer version.
o24-bootstrap is currently built into the image as an executable binary and is not integrated with and package managers. For this reason Outpost24 provides a public mirror the utility can be updated in case users need to update their utility to use more recent features provided via the utility.
In general, Outpost24 does not expect the user to update this utility since its not used as a runtime dependency anywhere. Only for enabling or disabling features that are unlikely to change post-deployment.
Introduction
Outpost24 publishes each bootstrap release to a public download location
https://static.outpost24.com/outscan-on-prem-bootstrap-<VERSION>
Example: https://static.outpost24.com/outscan-on-prem-bootstrap-1.20261027.1 for version 1.20261027.1.
Directory listing is not available on https://static.outpost24.com/. The exact download link is required. Generally other documentation and Portal links directly to the download you are expected to download.
For the bootstrap utility downloads, refer to the release notes for the most up to date version.
Prerequisites
-
rootaccess to On-Premise Scanning virtual machine -
The target version number (provided by Outpost24 Support or the release notes).
Update
Online On-Premise Scanning update
-
Access the On-Premise Scanning virtual machine
-
Check the current version
Basho24-bootstrap --version -
Set the target version and download it
Bashbootstrap_version=<INTENDED VERSION NUMBER> curl -fL -o /tmp/o24-bootstrap \ "https://static.outpost24.com/outscan-on-prem-bootstrap-${bootstrap_version}" chmod +x /tmp/o24-bootstrap -
Back up the old binary and replace it:
Bashold_path=$(command -v o24-bootstrap) sudo cp "$old_path" "${old_path}.bak" sudo mv /tmp/o24-bootstrap "$old_path" -
Verify the update:
Basho24-bootstrap --version
Air-gapped On-Premise Scanning update
-
On a machine with internet access, download the target version:
BashVERSION=1.20261027.1 curl -fL -o o24-bootstrap \ "https://static.outpost24.com/outscan-on-prem-bootstrap-${VERSION}" -
Transfer the file to the On-Premise Scanning VM with
scp, removable media, or another method that follows the site policy:Bashscp o24-bootstrap <user>@<on-premise-scanning-ip>:/tmp/ -
SSH into the On-Premise Scanning VM and make the file executable:
Bashchmod +x /tmp/o24-bootstrap -
Back up the old binary and replace it:
BashBIN=$(command -v o24-bootstrap) sudo cp "$BIN" "${BIN}.bak" sudo mv /tmp/o24-bootstrap "$BIN" -
Verify the update:
Basho24-bootstrap --version
Roll back
If the new version does not work as expected, restore the previous binary:
BIN=$(command -v o24-bootstrap)
sudo mv "${BIN}.bak" "$BIN"
