Supported Deployment Platforms for RC-Scanners

Purpose

This article describes the deployment platforms supported by RC-Scanner and explains the three-tier support model used to define compatibility and support levels.

Introduction

RC-Scanner uses a three-tier support model based on the underlying platform and virtualization technology. The model separates fully supported and tested platforms from compatible platforms with limited support and configurations that are not supported.

Use the support tiers to select an appropriate platform before deploying RC-Scanner and to understand the available level of Outpost24 support. This helps reduce deployment risks and clarifies which platform-specific issues remain the responsibility of the customer.

Supported Deployment Platforms

Tier 1: Fully Supported Platforms

These are environments actively tested and certified by Outpost24. We commit to full troubleshooting and issue resolution.

  • Bare metal x86_64 servers

  • Microsoft Hyper-V

  • VMware ESXi 7.x and later

  • Proxmox VE

What Tier 1 means:

  • Tested by Outpost24 with every release

  • Deployment guides

  • Troubleshooting support

  • Priority bug fixes and updates

Tier 2: Compatible Platforms

RC-Scanner should work on any standard x86_64 virtualization platform, but these have not been explicitly tested by Outpost24.

  • Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, GCP

  • Other KVM-based platforms (RHV, OpenStack, etc.)

  • VMware Workstation Pro / Fusion

  • Oracle VirtualBox

We support the RC-Scanner software. If the operating system boots and meets minimum requirements, we will help troubleshoot RC-Scanner functionality. However, platform-specific boot or import issues (e.g., cloud provider image conversion failures) are infrastructure issues outside our support scope.

What Tier 2 means:

  • Not explicitly tested by Outpost24

  • Generic deployment guidance provided

  • Best-effort support for RC-Scanner software issues

  • Platform-specific issues are customer responsibility

Tier 3: Not Supported

These configurations are outside the scope of RC-Scanner's design. We cannot provide support or guarantee functionality.

  • Non-x86_64 architectures (ARM, PowerPC, etc.)

  • Nested virtualization (VM inside VM)

  • Modified or custom firmware

  • Unsupported hypervisor versions (e.g., ESXi 6.x or older)

  • Environments that don't meet minimum system requirements

Why 3-tier model

RC-Scanner's three-tier support model is designed to provide clarity for both customers and Outpost24 while maximizing deployment flexibility.

For customers:

  • Flexibility to use compatible platforms

  • Risk-appropriate platform selection

For Outpost24:

  • Focused quality on tested platforms

  • Sustainable support scope

  • Resources concentrated where they matter most
