HIAB Scale External
Purpose
This document provides an overview of how to setup Scale External scanning, that is to say using OUTSCAN as a Scale scanner from a HIAB.
Introduction
With HIAB Scale External, you configure a HIAB appliance to offload AppSec (web application) scans to the OUTSCAN infrastructure while still retaining results locally. The arrangement lets your HIAB remain the control point for scheduling and asset management, but delegates the actual web scanning to an external scanner—usually deployed in the cloud. This is useful when you need to test external perimeter applications or reduce load on local appliance resources without losing integration with your HIAB environment.
Ensure that all firewall rules are in place to allow communication between the HIAB and OUTSCAN . This includes preventing any form of Deep Packet Inspection, which can interfere with the SSL connection between them.
Approve OUTSCAN as Scanner on HIAB
Log in to the HIAB scheduler.
Go to Main Menu > Settings > Distribution.
Right-click the Outscan entry and click Approve to enable the communication.
Choose Scanner on Portal for Application Assessment
Log in to the HIAB scheduler.
Go to Main Menu > Portal > Configuration > Scan configurations.
Add a new scan configuration by clicking green Plus icon on the lower right corner of the window.
Select Application assessment.
Under the Choose scanner drop-down you can select the newly approved OUTSCAN scanner.
You can also edit any existing scan configurations to change the scanner.
